Malaysian; and the other side
When I was reading the online news last night, as I’m waiting for the few heavy file to be downloaded, I found this music video that make my ear suddenly catching up the sound and rhythm.
This is the link.
A mixed group of Malaysian included filmmakers, dancers, singers, producers, musicians, actors, entrepreneurs, designers, footballers, activists, celebrities, students and a ‘florist’ gathered and came out with an attractive music video and website, even a package of banner to promote their ideas; Malaysian, or in the other word, anti-racism, just live in harmony, love the country. Of Hari Raya and ‘Sembang-sembang’
Assalamualaikum.
I just came back to KL to further my study since our class start on Monday. Bundle of assignment and course work stagnant in my working desk. But I feel much better because just met lovable family members and friends in hometown.
We also had a massive gathering among Kedah students who were studying in Malaysia and abroad in 3rd day of Hari Raya. Chit-chatting and discussing about our study and previous school of Alma mater makes us feel strong to face the challenges in the next period of life. Congratulation to Persatuan Mahasiswa Darul Aman (Persada) as the organizer. Thanks a lot to those friends for the touching and poetry Hari Raya wish via SMSes and emails.
This is my last Raya and Ramadhan in university, and hopefully not the last one in my life. InsyaALLAH. O ALLAH, give me a long and barakah life. Keep reading →

Kerja-kerja kita
Assalamualaikum.
Ramadhan tinggal beberapa hari saja lagi.
“Aku shopping last-last lah,” jawab saya selalunya kali ini.
Beberapa acara menarik sebelum cuti raya. Keep reading →

Op-ed: The debatable ‘dimension’.
FEW friends said to me that starting our speeches and talks with Basmallah are a demonstration of ‘one-dimensional’ society; seeing the world through the shortsighted lenses. But, from my point of view, sometimes I thought that was true. Yes, in one hand, there is an element of ’sufi’ and ‘takwa’. Remembering our God; Allah. But, please don’t underestimate and misunderstood that particular of ‘thought’, they also got the logic in seeing something.

Some people keep coining that mentioning Basmallah dan Assalamualaikum are still the basic behavioral characteristic of ‘one-dimensional man’, even sometimes people also see those terms are the implementation of social contract. But, the way they saw the case is contradicting to the important factor of one-dimensional minded phenomenon written by Germany philosopher, Herbert Marcuse in his book, One-dimensional man. Host: PMIUM
Date: Monday, August 17, 2009
Time: 9:30pm – 11:30pm
Location:Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
About the speaker:
Dr Muhammad Afifi al-Akiti BA (Queen’s), MA (Oxon), DPhil (Oxon), MSIEPM – also known as Shaykh Afifi[1][2] – is KFAS Fellow in Islamic Studies at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies,[3] and Islamic Centre Lecturer in Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Theology, University of Oxford,[4] and holds a lectureship in World Religions at Worcester College. He is the first ever Malay to be appointed to such a position in this world famous University.[5]
Dr al-Akiti completed his DPhil in Medieval Arabic Philosophy from Oxford University as a Clarendon Scholar in 2008. His thesis identifies and systematically considers for the first time a group of philosophical writings, called the Madnun corpus, attributed to Islam’s greatest theologian, al-Ghazali (d. 505/1111) – his discoveries are based on a painstaking survey of nearly 50 medieval Arabic manuscripts. Besides acquainting scholars with this remarkable new body of source material, his three-volume study presents a critical edition of the most advanced and technical work of this corpus, the manual on metaphysics and natural philosophy called the Major Madnun.[6][7]
Dr al-Akiti, who comes from Malaysia, is trained as a theologian and philologist in both the Islamic and Western traditions: educated originally at the feet of the ulema of the Muslim world, he subsequently received a First Class degree in Scholastic Philosophy and History of Science from the Queen’s University Belfast, where he was awarded various scholarships to read for his Masters and Doctoral degrees at Oxford. His areas of expertise are Islamic theology, philosophy and science.[8]
In 2009, along with Professor Muhammad Abdel Haleem and the IIIT, Dr al-Akiti was shortlisted for the Annual UK Muslim Awards, in one of its 15 coveted Awards for Excellence, the Allama Iqbal Award for Creativity in Islamic Thought.[9]
p/s – The topic basically will be discussed in the field of theology, the collision between Islamic and Western tradition and the preparation to the Muslim community especially the young generation in facing the new world order of politics, capitalism, secularism, neo-colonialism and war on ideology, from our Islamic perspective. Feel free to join us!

Kemuncup
Nothing I say about how we can fit any theory of conflict and conspiracy on our most widespread issue this week; so called ‘anti-Rosmah’ movement.
Ya la, I’ve mention about ‘gag order’ in my last post. So, no ‘gag order’. No rumor-stopping-machine, or even nobody going to hijack and hack the ‘most-discussed’ issue in yahoo group.
So, keep it up. Never stop it. Wait and see. English said, “Faith can move mountains, doubt can create them”.
p/s- People ask me to lower the volume and be cool. So, I said ok. we wait and see. Do our job. Thanks to my brother Pakaq on your recent post. You entering the game of rumors bro.
